How do insert and full-frame window replacement differ?
An insert retains a suitable existing frame and places a replacement unit within it. Full-frame work removes more of the assembly and exposes the opening for assessment. Compare retained materials, flashing work, trim restoration and the resulting clear opening rather than treating both proposals as the same job.
What should I compare on a window performance label?
Compare the ratings for the complete product and its suitability for the local climate and project. U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient describe different aspects of performance. Ask which specified unit the label describes; a generic brochure does not establish the rating of the product being supplied.
What information helps prepare a door or window visit?
Describe the opening, how it moves and what changed. Note whether a concern is with glass, the moving panel, hardware or the surrounding wall. Will both panels of a replacement sliding window open?

Ask for a panel drawing marking each moving and fixed section and any required opening sequence. A two-panel appearance alone does not tell you whether one or both panels move.
Which side is meant by a left-opening slider?
Mark the viewing direction on the order drawing. Andersen identifies gliding-window handing from outside using the operating sash location. Confirm the selected manufacturer’s convention; looking from the opposite side can reverse an unlabeled left or right description.
Can a dragging slider be assessed for repair before replacing the frame?
Ask the provider to separate panel movement, rollers or guides, meeting-point alignment, seals and frame condition in the assessment. Have the proposal explain which finding supports repair or full replacement and which existing parts would remain. Dragging or a latch-side gap does not by itself identify the complete work required.
What care information belongs with the new slider at handover?
Ask for the selected product’s instructions for tracks, drainage paths, screens and any removable panels. Have the installer identify the relevant features on the supplied unit and demonstrate normal opening, closing and locking. Agree how unresolved movement or drainage concerns will be recorded; another model’s removal or adjustment instructions are not a substitute.
